Congratulations to Tom and Mark who have both passed their City & Guilds NPTC Level 2 Award for Tree Climbing and Rescue. This allows them to access a tree using a rope and harness, carry out aerial rescue operations and therefore enables Tom and Mark to carry out aerial tree inspections of potential bat roosting features, under the guidance of a suitably licensed surveyor.
Aerial tree inspections are extremely useful surveys as they enable ecologists to access features that could otherwise only be assessed from the ground. Once closely inspected within the tree with an endoscope, many features are often downgraded such that additional surveys are not necessary. This saves the client time and money, by preventing the need to do presence / absence surveys in the bat survey season. Aerial tree inspections can be carried out all year round.
